Can Dogs Eat Lovage?

No, lovage is toxic to dogs in any amount.

Lovage is an herb that is grown in the United States, but is native to Asia and Europe. While the poisoning is mild compared to other herb poisonings, dogs should still avoid consuming lovage. Some breeds like Australian, German, and English shepherds, Collies, and Shetland sheepdogs are more likely to react poorly to lovage than other breeds of dogs. That being said, no amount of lovage is considered safe for any dog.

Symptoms of lovage poisoning include:

  • Dizziness
  • Muscle cramps
  • Extreme thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Coma
  • Respiratory problems
  • Death

If you think that your dog has eaten any part of the lovage plant, it is best to call your veterinarian for further information.
